REVEALING THE BEAUTY IN EVERYTHING
Lets have a bit of a rundown!
So many times I get asked “What exactly is An Interior Stylist?” For each individual, the answer may be slightly different, but in essence here is a bit of a rundown of what I get to do every day….and yes it’s really awesome!
When you are shopping online or reading a glossy magazine in your Doctor’s surgery you don’t always appreciate that behind the photos you are pouring over, many of those gorgeous images have been purposefully constructed and created. That visual aesthetic is the essence of what an Interior Stylist is asked to do. Every job is different and the “Types Of Styling” we are asked to do can be anything from an Editorial shoot for a new line in cushions, to totally Styling a multi-million pound mansion room by room.
GETTING THE PERFECT PHOTO DOES NOT HAPPEN BY LUCK
Conceptualize, plan and implement
From an initial client brief, it is the job of the Interior Stylist to then conceptualize, plan and implement an idea. With lots of creativity and imagination, thus getting the perfect photo that not only provokes a feeling and that draws you in to love the subject matter, it also proves that this does not happen by luck!
It’s true that not all Interior Stylists are qualified but do have good style- but when you find one that is also an experienced qualified Interior Designer who loves and gets all aspects of creating perfect images and an amazing Project Manager to boot…well , need I say more…Job done!
I often creatively take control of most of my shoots/ projects from beginning to end, however I also pride myself in working with many other talented, skilled and creative people to bring out the best possible outcome to each project. Being part of a well-oiled team…normally with coffee, is very rewarding.
I work with Editors, Photographers, Architects, Property Consultants and Show home Interior Designers to name a few - so being a people person is a given.
SO WHAT IS AN INTERIOR STYLIST'S AREA OF EXPERTISE?
ACHIEVING THAT AESTHETIC PERFECTION
The skill of an Interior Stylist is to blend the many experiences and specialist areas that they have to offer and then transfer and adapt to almost any creative challenge that they are given…And I love a good challenge!
Stylists have to be able to do everything from art directing to setting up a lifestyle shoot. This requires me to not only be a good designer, but to pull together a look that will mean often sourcing and designing props and soft furnishings, well before a camera even comes out of the bag.
A stylist’s job is to be a Chameleon- to absorb and reflect many different styles and trends. What drives all stylists is a passion for perfecting that aesthetic composition and decorative design…knowing that when you all just stand back…take a deep breath and hear the click of the camera ….You’ve nailed it!
